Giants place reliever Runzler on DL, recall Martinez

The 25-year-old left-hander suffered the injury in Thursday's win over the Milwaukee Brewers while swinging through a 1-1 pitch from David Riske in his seventh-inning plate appearance.

Runzler picked up the win to improve to 3-0 in 36 relief outings. He has a 3.30 earned run average in 30 innings of work.

To take his roster spot, the club recalled right-handed pitcher Joe Martinez from Triple-A Fresno. The 27-year-old is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA in two games -- one start this season -- in the big leagues.

For his career, Martinez has a compiled a 3-3 record to go with a 6.99 ERA in 11 games, including six starts.
