Kingston, Kaymer three clear in Stockholm

08/18/2007 - Stockholm, Sweden (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - James Kingston carded a three-under 67 Saturday to join Martin Kaymer in the lead after three rounds of the Scandinavian Masters.

Kaymer, one of three second-round co-leaders, posted a two-under 68 to remain tied for the lead at seven-under-par 203.

Englishman Nick Dougherty had climbed into a share of the lead, but fell back. He shot 69 and shares third place at minus-four with Paul Broadhurst (64) and Mikko Ilonen (67).

Kingston opened his round by dropping a shot on the second, but rebounded to birdie No. 4. After four straight pars, Kingston dropped his third to three feet at the par-five ninth.

He kicked in the birdie putt to join Henrik Nystrom and Kaymer in a share of the lead. Around the turn, Kingston rolled in a 20-foot birdie putt on the 11th at Arlandastad Golf Club to join Nystrom at minus-six.

Kingston, who is looking for his first tour title, parred his next five holes before regaining a piece of the lead at seven-under thanks to a five-foot birdie putt at 17.

"I'm pleased with that round. Even though it wasn't windy, it was still tricky. There was enough wind around to make the course play tricky and a lot of shots play difficult," said Kingston, who shares the 54-hole lead for the third time in his career. "But I am happy with how I played. I'm in good position, so we'll see what happens."

Kaymer quickly moved ahead of his second-round co-leaders, Nystrom and Sam Walker, with a two-foot birdie putt on the first. Kaymer tripped to a bogey on the sixth after finding water with his tee shot.

"That was a really bad shot and it was not the right club," said Kaymer of his bogey.

The 22-year-old Kaymer parred six straight after his bogey, then recovered that lost stroke with a five-foot birdie putt on 13. Kaymer got up and down for birdie from a greenside bunker at the par-five 15th to post his third birdie in three days on that hole. He parred the last three to share the lead.

"I played not to bad today. I played a little bit better than Friday and a little better than Thursday," Kaymer admitted. "Generally, it was a good round."

Kaymer is also looking for his first tour win. He led after 54 holes earlier this year at the Wales Open, but closed with a one-over 70 to end in a tie for 14th.

"I was in the same situation in Wales already and I learned a lot of things," said Kaymer of playing in the final group while searching for his first tour win. "I hope I can use what I learned (Sunday)."

Walker stumbled to a two-over 72. That left him tied for sixth with Peter Hedblom, Joakim Backstrom and Christian Cevaer at three-under-par 207.

Nystrom (73), Jean-Baptiste Gonnet and first-round leader Scott Strange are one stroke farther back at minus-two.
