08/19/2007 - Edmonton, AB (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - World No. 1 Lorena Ochoa fired a seven-under 64 on Saturday to move into sole possession of the lead after the third round of the Canadian Open.
She finished 54 holes at 14-under-par 199, which established a new tournament record. Ochoa toppled the old mark of 200, set by Meg Mallon in the 2004 tournament.
The tournament record is in serious jeopardy as well. Ochoa will only need to break 70 on Sunday to best Mallon's record as the Women's British Open champion seeks her fifth win of the year and 14th on the LPGA Tour.
Ochoa's 64 also matched Karrie Webb's round from Friday as the course record at Royal Mayfair Golf & Country Club.
Paula Creamer posted a five-under 66 and is tied for second place with first- round leader Laura Diaz, who managed a three-under 68 on Saturday. The pair is tied for second place at minus-10.
Ya-Ni Tseng carded a four-under 67 and is alone in fourth place at eight- under-par 205.
Despite rain falling throughout much of the third round, Ochoa flew up the leaderboard right away. She drained an eight-foot birdie putt at the second hole and hit her third to 10 feet at the par-five third. She sank that putt and made it three in a row with an 18-footer at the par-three fourth.
Ochoa parred her next two, but took the lead over Diaz with a 15-foot birdie putt at the seventh. She collected back-to-back birdies when her four-iron tee ball stopped six feet from the hole at eight.
Ochoa padded her lead with a birdie at the par-five 10th. She appeared to be in trouble at the 13th when her drive came to rest in an unraked bunker. Ochoa made par and rolled in a six-foot birdie putt at the 14th to move to 14-under par.
What is even scarier for Ochoa's closest pursuers is that the No. 1 player could have gone even lower. She almost holed a birdie chip at 15, then her 12- foot birdie effort at 16 lipped out of the cup.
Ochoa's second at 17 hopped over the green, but no matter. She saved par, closed with a par and has a four-stroke lead with one round to play.
Juli Inkster, a second-round co-leader, only managed a two-over 73 and is tied for fifth place with Kimberly Hall, who shot a one-over 72. The pair is knotted at six-under 207.
Shi Hyun Ahn, the other overnight co-leader, struggled to a three-over 74. She shares seventh place with Julieta Granada (66), Young Jo (68), Mallon (68), Jeong Jang (70) and Brittany Lang (70). The group came in at five-under-par 208.
Defending champion and reigning U.S. Women's Open winner Cristie Kerr shot an even-par 71 and is part of a group tied for 19th at minus-three.
